Hazardous Substances Policy

A hazardous substance is any substance that has the potential to cause harm. This could be in the form of a skin irritation or burn, by causing an allergic reaction, asthma or that there is a risk of the spread of infection from bacteria.

Chemical Hazards

Chemicals are widely used in our setting for a variety of purposes such as cleaning. We will endeavour to keep chemical products to a minimum using natural products where ever possible.

All hazardous substance will be stored in a locked cupboard only accessible with a key.

We only use craft materials intended for children to use. Children’s paints and glue are purchased from reputable children’s craft or toy suppliers. Children will be supervised at all times and wear appropriate protection when necessary.

Biological Hazards

Biological hazards are found around the setting in the form of dirty nappies, bodily fluids, bacteria, insect bites, wasp stings etc. We have in force a separate hygiene policy and will ensure the setting is clean at all times. Nappies are disposed of in the nappy bin which is collected weekly.
